Information for Sophomores

This year, you and your parents will receive some messages directly from the College Guidance office. These will alert you to the PSSS (a dry run for the PSAT) in the winter, advise you about SAT Subject Tests that some of you should take in June, and outline all the standardized tests you should anticipate taking from sophomore through senior year. If you think you may qualify to take standardized tests with accommodations such as extended time, talk to George School’s learning specialist now in order to get these accommodations approved by the College Board.

Sophomore year is a great time to explore the wealth of information available through your Naviance Family Connection account. Take the personality/interest inventory and read about some of the potential college majors and careers to which it will link you. Explore Method Test Prep, Naviance's free online SAT and ACT prep course.

Continue to do your best in all your classes! Colleges notice upward trends in the grades on your transcript as well as your willingness to challenge yourself in increasingly demanding classes. Ask yourself: What type of student and community member am I? What would I like my teachers and coaches to say about me? Concentrate your energies on a short list of activities (whether sports, arts, service, or clubs) that speak most deeply to your interests. Think about leadership opportunities you might pursue in your remaining two years at George School, and make plans to do something meaningful with your summer: get a job, do community service, build a robot in your basement, or start writing that novel!
