ESL Curriculum
The English as a Second Language (ESL) curriculum is offered at the advanced level. ESL classes emphasize communication skills—speaking, listening, writing, and reading. Just before school starts in September, ESL students attend the International Student Orientation, a culture orientation program.
In their first year at George School, students in the program take two ESL English classes, ESL U.S. History: Pre-Civil War, and mainstream courses in science, mathematics, religion, and the arts. In their second year, students take ESL U.S. History: Civil War to Present and mainstream courses in all other subjects. Each year, all ESL students take a physical education course or participate in a team sport each term.
