Study Hall
Students may use the library at any time during the school day. During the evening study hall period, boarders and day students should enter by 7:30 p.m. and plan to stay until 9:30 p.m. Students in the library for evening study hall should be engaged in quiet, individual academic work. The library is open for extended hours during study weekends prior to term exams.
Borrowing Privileges
Students, faculty, and staff are welcome to borrow materials from the library. Simply bring your materials to the Information Desk and present your GS ID card. You are responsible for all the materials borrowed on your card and for any charges for items that are lost or damaged. We do not charge fines, but encourage our Library community to use the materials responsibly.
The loan period is 60 days from the date of checkout. If items are not renewed by the due date, the student's account will be charged the price of the items and a non-refundable processing fee. Students are also encouraged to borrow material through an extensive interlibrary loan network. Students must have their GS ID card to check out items from the library.
Renewing Materials
Providing that no one has placed a hold on your material, you can renew materials by presenting your GS ID card at the Information desk in the Library or by calling the library at 215.579.6652.
Returning Materials
Library material should be returned on or before the due date. All material can be returned through the return slot in the front door foyer and the return slot at the Information desk.
Placing Holds
If material you want is checked out to another user, please see the staff at the Information Desk who will assist you with placing a hold.
Interlibrary Loan
If the Anderson Library does not own an item that you need, our Interlibrary Loan staff will try to get a copy sent from another library system. This is a cooperative agreement between many libraries that offers you access to millions of books! Complete an Interlibrary Loan Request Form at the Information Desk (we ask that no more than six items be borrowed at the same time) and wait for our email notification that your material has arrived. Allow for 5-10 days for delivery from the date of your request. Observe the due date of the borrowed item. If you need a renewal, please notify the Anderson Library staff before the item is due.
Reserves
Faculty will often place books and other materials on Reserve so that there is access for all of the students in that particular class. These materials are for In-Library Use Only so plan to use the materials during the hours that the Library is open. To borrow Reserve items, please ask for them at the Information desk by author and title and present your GS ID card.
Email Notification
You will receive email notifications when your requests are ready for pickup, and when your material is overdue.
Suggest a Purchase
We welcome your suggestions and are proud that the GS community recommends titles for our Collections. The Library staff regularly consults with reviewing tools (Booklist, Library Journal, The NY Times Book Review) prior to purchasing new titles to gauge feedback from a wider readership. We may consult those tools for the title that you recommend. In addition, the item must be published and available through our standard channels of purchasing.
