IB Investigation Workbook in short
Your IB investigation workbook is not a scrapbook, nor a diary nor a sketchbook not just a journal but a record of:
- 2 years of your personal journey in the study of a visual art,
- your experimentation with media and ideas,
- your reactions to art exhibits galleries, festivals any other expression of visual art
- your analysis of art works
- your study of art movements and artists
In discussing artists and their work you should first include the:
Then look at the:
- WHY the work was created the way it was created
- HOW the work has impact on you and on society
- WHAT the social situation was at the time that made this work important
In so doing you must:
- Use vocabulary related to the study of art, your medium’s vocabulary and art in general
- Discuss the principles of design, rhythm, balance focus, movement etc
- Discuss the elements of art, Line, shape, color, texture, space
- Include images that are discussed as either thumbnail sketches and/or printed images
- Have text and images and ideas on each page...do not separate these aspects of analysis
It is important:
- to use ink to make the pages legible, any method that will Xerox is OK
- to coordinate the studio work with the journal work
- to include practice with media and sketches for big projects
- to include ideas for works for future
- to include information on other culture’s influences on your art
