IB Investigation Workbook in short

Your IB investigation workbook is not a scrapbook, nor a diary nor a sketchbook not just a journal but a record of:

  • 2 years of your personal journey in the study of a visual art,
  • your experimentation with media and ideas,
  • your reactions to art exhibits galleries, festivals any other expression of visual art
  • your analysis of art works
  • your study of art movements and artists
In discussing artists and their work you should first include the:
  • WHO
  • WHEN
  • WHERE
Then look at the:
  • WHY the work was created the way it was created
  • HOW the work has impact on you and on society
  • WHAT the social situation was at the time that made this work important
In so doing you must:
  • Use vocabulary related to the study of art, your medium’s vocabulary and art in general
  • Discuss the principles of design, rhythm, balance focus, movement etc
  • Discuss the elements of art, Line, shape, color, texture, space
  • Include images that are discussed as either thumbnail sketches and/or printed images
  • Have text and images and ideas on each page...do not separate these aspects of analysis
It is important:
  • to use ink to make the pages legible, any method that will Xerox is OK
  • to coordinate the studio work with the journal work
  • to include practice with media and sketches for big projects
  • to include ideas for works for future
  • to include information on other culture’s influences on your art
