IB English HL2—World Literature including Writer's Focus Summer Assignment 2011-12
In addition to reading The Odyssey, the following assignment is required for anyone coming into IB/AP World Literature—Writer's Focus.
Over the summer, all Writers Focus students should write a five-page creative manuscript for submission on the first day of class in September. The manuscript should be either poetry, prose fiction, or drama. Students may combine genres (one one-page poem and one four-page piece of fiction, for example; or a three-page fiction piece and a two -page play scene. Any combination is fine but the total should add up to five pages.). Pieces do not have to be completed. For instance, if you are interested in working on a novella during the year, you may turn in the first five pages as your summer manuscript. If one or more of the pieces in the manuscript are not complete, include a Statement of Intent in which you explain why and indicate where you intend to go with the piece. The Statement of Intent should not be included in the page count.
Please note that this is a creative manuscript. It should not include critical essays, personal essays, or a research paper. This material will form the basis of our workshops as we begin the year.
