Financial Aid Picture

For many years, George School has been known for its strong Quaker values, diverse community, and the excellence of its academic, athletics, and arts programs. In order to sustain the socioeconomic diversity of the community, George School offers over $5.8 million in need-based financial aid to about 47 percent of its students. This substantial financial commitment supports an environment in which students with widely varying life experiences can learn together and from one another.

The George School Financial Aid Committee understands that sending a child to George School is a significant financial commitment. Therefore, families are encouraged to apply for aid if they imagine that the cost of attending George School is greater than their ability to contribute. The Committee expects all families applying for aid to utilize all available avenues to contribute to their children’s education, including discretionary income, support from relatives or other sources, and any student assets. In addition, unless there are extenuating circumstances, George School assumes that both parents will be employed.

In determining a family’s financial need, the George School Financial Aid Committee follows guidelines developed by the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) that are measured by School and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS) as well as our own school financial aid policies. Many factors are considered, including income, assets, allowable debts, certain family expenses, family size, and number of children enrolled in tuition-charging schools.

Unfortunately, due to the constraints of the financial aid budget, we are not always able to offer financial aid to every qualifying family. It is possible to be accepted to George School but then be placed on a waiting list for financial aid. Because of the heavy demand for the larger financial aid packages, students with the strongest academic records and those who are children of Quaker families are given priority. International students may qualify for financial aid, but these funds are very limited. Aid awards for international students cannot exceed half of the tuition.

Knowing that each family has a unique financial picture, if you would like to discuss your specific situation, please call Christian Donovan, financial aid director, at 215.579.6544 or email christian_donovan@georgeschool.org. If you have questions regarding the timeline for the financial aid application or our receipt of your financial aid forms, please call Cindy Law, financial aid coordinator, at 215.579.6546 or email cindy_law@georgeschool.org.
