Celebration for Accepted Students
All applicants who have been offered admission for the 2012-2013 academic year are invited to the Celebration for Accepted Students on Sunday, April 1, 2012.
The Celebration for Accepted Students begins with registration and refreshments at 1:30 p.m. in the George School Meetinghouse. Nancy Starmer, head of school, will welcome applicants and their families at 2:00 p.m. Students will then participate in a series of mini-classes while families will attend workshops that explore unique aspects of academics, arts, athletics, and student life at George School. Afterwards, everyone reconvenes in the meetinghouse for refreshments and remarks that conclude by 4:30 p.m.
Please email celebration@georgeschool.org to RSVP or if you have questions about the event.
Celebration FAQs
What time should we get to George School?
Make sure you are here at 1:30 p.m. on April 1, 2012, to register and have refreshments before the program begins at 2:00 p.m.
Do my parents have to attend?
Actually, the day is designed with both you and your parents in mind. Definitely bring your parents!
Can I bring siblings?
Yes, but they won’t be able to go with you to your workshops. Siblings attend the information sessions with your parents. They might not have quite as much fun as you will, but we certainly welcome them to tag along and listen to what your parents are learning.
What is the event like?
We all gather in the George School Meetinghouse for a brief introductory presentation. Then we break into smaller groups, in typical George School style. We have three information sessions planned for parents and a series of workshops for students.
Is this a dressy event?
Not really. Just dress as you would if you were attending classes here. In fact, you will attend a couple of workshops that are more like mini-classes than workshops. We think you will get a kick out of our twenty-minute blasts of learning…and fun.
Do I have to register in advance?
Yes, please let us know whether or not you are attending. We need to figure out how much food to set out for you and your family…and the many hungry student helpers.
How do we register?
Send an email to celebration@georgeschool.org or call 215.579.6548. Make sure you let us know the student’s name and how many guests will attend with you.
Where do we go at 1:30 p.m. for the celebration?
The celebration begins in the George School Meetinghouse at the corner of Farm Drive and Meetinghouse Lane. If you get there earlier than 1:30 p.m., walk across the lane to the new Mollie Dodd Anderson Library. We’ve arranged for some students to be there who will be delighted to welcome you with a cup of hot chocolate.
Can you remind me of directions to George School?
Here’s a link to get directions to George School via Google.
For those of you who rely on a global positioning system (GPS) software, here’s an IMPORTANT WARNING! For reasons too convoluted to explain here, some GPS software will reveal directions to George School only if you enter Langhorne PA 19047 as the “town,” instead of our mailing address of Newtown PA 18940.
REMEMBER, by mail, we are Newtown…but by GPS, we’re Langhorne. Go figure.
