George School vs Solebury School (Scrimmage)
Wed 11/30/2011 @ 5:15 PM
The 2011-2012 team is a small group of ball players who all have aspirations of becoming better so that they can contribute to the varsity team in the future. The true definition of team. We only have eight players; each brings his own talent to the overall make-up of the team.
Junior Larenz Storey will play point guard and handle most of the ball handling duties. Junior Chris He will play small forward and be expected to be a primary shooter and defender. Junior guard Justin Mendez will be expected to play a major role on defense. Sophomore center Brett Heffelfinger will be asked to patrol the middle of the lane and rebound. Sophomore forward Daniel Lindsay will be counted on to score, play defense and rebound. Sophomore guard "Kelvin" Yuchen Liang will be our primary outside threat from behind the 3-point line. Sophomore center Weber Kuo will be counted on to rebound and play solid defense. And sophomore forward Michael Hsu will be a versatile member of the team as he will play center and forward.
The team will be challenged considering that we only have eight members. However, we will be teaching fundamentals all season with the hopes of developing the team and its individuals. We are certain that these eight will give their best efforts each practice and game.

George School vs Perkiomen School - Sat 12/03/2011 @ 3:30 PM
Win 28-26
The team started the season with a great win over The Perkiomen School. As we looked at the Perkiomen bench, we were concerned about the sixteen players they had to substitute into the game against our eight players. Yet, all eight of our players contributed in a significant way. Although the game started slowly, the action certainly picked up in the fourth quarter. In the first quarter, the offense sputtered and could only generate four total points. Luckily, our defense was able to hold Perkiomen to only five points. As the second quarter began, a terrific transition 3-pointer by sophomore "Kelvin" Yuchen Liang, off of a penetration and kick by junior Chris He, brought some hope to our offensive woes. However, we ended the quarter with only five points. Again, our defense was able to hold Perkiomen to only four points. Both teams entered the locker room at halftime tied 9-9!
In the third quarter, our team's lay up woes continued. We missed several close shots, some which were created by the penetration of our junior guards, Larenz Storey and Justin Mendez. And although "Kelvin" kept us in the game with another 3-pointer, we could only generate five points with 2 of 6 shooting from the free throw line. Unfortunately, our defense didn't perform nearly as well in the third quarter due in large part to fatigue and foul trouble. Sophomore Daniel Lindsay had to sit much of the quarter with three fouls, while Mendez also sat for long stretches with foul trouble. At the beginning of the fourth quarter, I told our team that we couldn't afford to let Perkiomen go ahead by 8 points because we hadn't scored more than five points in each previous quarter. Our strategy was to score two baskets and two free throws so that we could tie the game in the fourth. Instead, our team began a torrid attack on the basket. "Kelvin" dropped in another basket on a nice drive to the basket to conclude his scoring and give him a team leading nine points. Sophomore Michael Hsu contributed in the fourth quarter by dropping in two lay ups off a nice drive, draw and dish by Storey and then again by Mendez. Re-entered starter Lindsay got his scoring mode in gear and led the team down the stretch with six points including two free throws. The Cougars play on Friday night at Lower Moreland High School, and then host Friends' Central School on Saturday afternoon.

George School vs Lower Moreland High School - Fri 12/09/2011 @ 5:30 PM
Loss 25-37
To look out on the court, one would have thought the Cougars wouldn't stand a chance. Lower Moreland had a full bench of 12. They had size up front, and some shooters who were making shots from all over the court during warm ups. What was impressive was the Cougars didn't seem to be affected in the least. The group of 8 players rallied from the beginning to the end with so much playing against them. In the first quarter, our offense generated just 6 points. Junior Justin Mendez scored 4 points on impressive drives to the basket. Sophomore Michael Hsu also dropped in a basket to round out our scoring. Defensively, the Cougars were solid. We only surrendered 9 points in the first quarter. However, after shooting two free throws in the first quarter, the Cougars wouldn't have another opportunity from the charity stripe the rest of the evening. This would prove fatal to the hopes of the visitors. In the second quarter, Lower Moreland went on an impressive run while two of the Cougars starters sat with foul trouble. But the Cougars began the third quarter in an impressive way. Hsu nailed his first three pointer of the year to start our scoring. Mendez once again used his speed to get to the basket and dropped in 4 points in the quarter to bring his total to 10 points for the game. Sophomore Daniel Lindsay scored on an impressive baseline drive; he drove with his left hand, elevated near the rim, and gently tapped the ball off the backboard. Sophomore center Brett Heffelfinger dropped in a bucket to help the Cougars eat into the big lead held by the Lions. However, the Cougars lost Lindsay and its floor General, junior Larenz Storey, for the game when both fouled out on questionable calls. Nonetheless, the Cougars refused to give in. Sophomore sharp shooter, Kelvin (Yuchen) Liang, drained a beautiful 3-point shot from the wing, while Hsu chipped in a nice basket to give him 7 points for the game. Junior forward Chris He finally got into the scoring column with a nice head fake and drive pull-up jumper in the lane to give him 4 points for the game. In the quarter, the Cougars scored 7 points and held the Lions to just 3 points. However, the free throw disparity was the dagger. The Cougars shot two in the first quarter, while Lower Moreland capitalized on 11 for 19 shooting from the free throw line. The Cougars host FCS on Saturday.

George School vs Friends' Central School - Sat 12/10/2011 @ 3:00 PM
Loss 25-37
In their second game in as many days, the JV team played with enthusiasm. Unfortunately, we didn't get the win on Saturday against a loaded Friends' Cental School. A usually solid defensive squad, the Cougars played flat in the first quarter and gave up 15 points. We scored 7 points off of a three pointer by sophomore Daniel Lindsay and a basket and free throws by junior Larenz Storey. In the second quarter, the Cougars were more aggressive. We held FCS to just 6 points in the frame and scored 4 points of our own. Lindsay scored one of our two baskets, while sophomore Kelvin Liang tossed in a basket. In the third quarter, the Cougars were great defensively! While scoring 7 points in the quarter, led by Storey with 3, Lindsay with 2 points, and sophomore Michael Hsu with 2 points, the Cougars cut into the FCS lead by holding them to only 1 point in the third. The impressive quarter of defense was highlighted by sophomore Brett Heffelfinger who snagged two rebounds and by junior guard Justin Mendez who tallied two steals in the quarter. As well, junior Chris He helped with solid defense and rebounding around the basket in our match up zone, while sophomore center Weber Kuo hustled for loose balls and played well on the defensive end of the floor. Unfortunately, a few open shots didn't fall for us and we were still on the short end of the points total. In the final quarter, the tired Cougars had to resort to fouling to stop the clock. FCS went to the line and made 7 of 10 from the line to close out the win. The Cougars could only muster 7 points in the final quarter.

George School vs Westtown School - Tue 12/13/2011 @ 4:00 PM
Loss 25-62
The Cougars did not play well at Westtown. Unfortunately, their full court pressure got to us and we never responded. Westtown finished the game with 62 points.

George School vs Morrisville High School - Sat 12/17/2011 @ 2:00 PM
Loss 43-48
The Cougars, playing shorthanded, stayed close with the visiting team from Morrisville. After one quarter, the teams were locked at 13 a piece. Sophomore Chris He and sophomore Brett Heffelfinger led the team with four points in the quarter. In the second quarter the scoring dropped off considerably for the home team; sophomore Larenz Storey scored four points and the rest of the team could only muster one basket. After the half, the high powered offense returned and the defense picked it up a bit. Chris He and sophomore Daniel Lindsay chipped in two baskets a piece. Freshman Jake Seiler scored six points with two consecutive baskets coming at a crucial time in the game. The offense really began to move as Storey pushed the tempo of the game, dropped "dimes" and worked the ball into the right places for shots. The Cougars scored 16 points in the quarter while holding Morrisville to only 11. Game on! In the final period, the Cougars shot only 4 for 10 from the free throw line while Morrisville shot 8 for 13. In the end, the Cougars, behind some quality defensive play by sophomore Brett Heffelfinger, played well but came up short again. The Cougars have PDS on Monday.

George School vs Princeton Day School - Mon 12/19/2011 @ 4:15 PM
Loss 34-39
The Cougars had another one of those games. We were undermanned with players sitting out due to injury for a second straight game. In their place, we added freshmen Timofei Kharisov and Jake Seiler who contributed great minutes in the last game against Morrisville. In this game, Timofei contributed a 3-pointer in the second quarter that helped the Cougars stay close. In the third period, both teams went cold and only account for 12 total points. The Cougars, who were led in scoring by junior Justin Mendez with 13 points, needed some help from generally reliable shooters in sophomore Michael Hsu and Kelvin (Yuchen) Liang. However, between the two of them, they only scored 3 points on 3-4 shooting from the line. Nonetheless, Hsu played stellar defense on post players and quicker forwards. Liang was coming off an injury to his hand. Sophomore Weber Kuo played great defense for the Cougars, playing against a big player around the basket. He contributed 2 rebounds. Nonetheless, turnovers down the stretch were our undoing. We did not get more than 2 shots off in the quarter. Although we shot more free throws in this game (7-12), we only score 3 baskets. The kids are giving a strong effort in every game. Once we get some rest, we will be ready to take on all-comers during the second half of the season.
