Strength & Conditioning
George School's expanded and renovated Performance & Wellness Center, located in the former weight room of the Alumni Gym, now houses the SOURCE Institute, a strength and conditioning company that emphasizes personal development through physical activity, athletic performance, and optimal health.
The SOURCE Institute has a team of strength and conditioning coaches on site to provide students with:
Strength and conditioning for athletic teams. Every George School athletic team has its own SOURCE coach to design a program, instruct, and supervise two full-hour strength and conditioning sessions each week during pre-season. These sessions include stability, strength, and speed training techniques. In addition, each athlete will receive a full twelve-month plan to help him or her meet personal goals for their sport and position(s) of play. |
Supervision of the physical education weightlifting program. SOURCE coaches work with weightlifting students for three sessions each week. These sessions include basic biomechanical assessments, neuromuscular re-education, speed-training, flexibility work, stress reduction techniques (including meditation), and nutrition counseling. |
Professional Services
Professional services are available for students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends for a fee. These services are offered to individuals, small groups, or teams and include:
Biomechanical and risk-for-injury assessment |
Sport-specific strength, conditioning, and speed work |
Corrective exercise and injury rehabilitation |
Motivational enhancement coaching |
Golf-specific training |
The SOURCE Institute offers individuals three complimentary sessions with a SOURCE coach. The first of these sessions includes a biomechanical and risk-for-injury assessment that informs the coach and client of any existing inefficiencies that may lead to decreased performance or injury. The second and third sessions include the presentation of an individualized program, designed specifically to address the client's needs, along with a general fitness program.
Also open to the general George School community are free seminars and lectures offered throughout the year, covering performance and wellness topics.
Hours of Operation
The Performance & Wellness Center is always open, whether or not George School is closed for breaks or vacations. Coaches are available from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Monday through Sunday.
