Three Global Service Program Trips Complete 
With participants representing thirteen schools in seven states, George School’s Global Service Program launched its first trip to Ecuador and third trips to China and Cuba. Intended to train future service-project leaders from secondary schools and enhance the scope and quality of international service trips for secondary school students, the Global Service Program enrolled eleven teachers, one administrator, and thirty students this year.

New Foundation Supports GS Service in China
Inspired by George School’s tradition of global service, two George School parents in China have created a new foundation that will help support George School-sponsored service trips in their country. The foundation will promote mutual respect and understanding between those of different cultures and social backgrounds in the United States and China.

GS Prepares First Global Service Program Participants for Trips to Cuba and China
Twenty-two educators from seventeen schools in ten states will convene at George School on Monday, July 6, 2009, to launch the school’s Global Service Program—a new opportunity designed to enhance the scope and quality of international service trips for secondary school students.

GS Sponsors Trips to Cuba and China
George School launches its Faculty Institute for Global Service with trips to Cuba and China in July 2009. The faculty institute is part of the Global Service Program that was made possible in part through an Educational Leadership Grant from the Edward E. Ford Foundation in 2008. The Global Service Program is designed to enhance the scope and quality of international service trips for secondary students by providing training programs for adult leaders and by providing transformative experiences for students. The student component will begin in 2010.

George School has been selected to receive a $250,000 matching Educational Leadership Grant from the Edward E. Ford Foundation for the purpose of creating a new Global Service Program.
