George School Day Camp: Program

At GSDC, we do many different types of game activities that do not require primary sports skills. These activities may involve object retrieval, invasion, or target type games similar to what campers might find in a good physical education program. We also have some unique games such as Tchoukball, Trangleball, and creative adaptations of kickball games that are quickly becoming camp favorites. We believe it is through games and activities that kids learn how to better interact and communicate with one another.

We focus our program on age-appropriate games and activities to promote friendship and fun. Kids learn about themselves; how to work with others; how to wait their turn; how to handle success, failure, and frustration, and how to improve. All this is done in an environment where effort is encouraged by a supportive and loving staff.

The daily camper activities schedule changes every day. Campers will come home each Friday with a newsletter and schedule for the next week.  It is impossible to list all of the many activities and games that campers participate in on a daily basis. We offer games like Jurassic Park, Capture the Golden Egg, Rescue Rangers, Ultimate Handball, Freedom, Capture the Flag, and Ring Leader to name a few. We remain committed to putting together an active daily program that encourages participation from every camper in an atmosphere and environment that is supportive and encouraging. Every group is given the opportunity to experience computer activities, swimming, arts and crafts, drama games, and other physically active games and activities. There are certain groups that will not participate in certain activities that might not be appropriate for their age or experience. For example, our senior campers will experience mountain biking, tubing, kayaking, a trip to The Quarry Swim Club, archery, and maybe even indoor rock climbing, but our junior campers and youngest campers will not. We do not feel the listed activities are age appropriate for our Junior and Little Campers in this environment. We trust that with this explanation parents can appreciate the tremendous challenge we face to provide an active, stimulating, and safe program for all our campers.

All our campers spend plenty of time in our beautiful, eight-lane, twenty five-meter indoor pool. All swim instruction is conducted under the supervision of a professionally trained staff of certified swim instructors (WSI certified). As campers progress through the multiple levels of the Red Cross Swim Program they are able to pass a swim test to obtain the next level swim card.

Additionally, campers have the option of enjoying free swim every day. Our swim instruction is conducted under the supervision of a professionally trained staff of certified swim instructors (WSI certified). As campers progress through the seven levels of the Red Cross Swim Program they are able to pass a swim test to obtain the next level swim card.
