Are you ready to accept the challenge? This unique week of camp is like Kid Nation meets Survivor meets Odyssey of the Mind! Campers are given a variety of activity-based challenges to solve throughout the week. These challenges encourage and provoke kids to find workable solutions to creative and fun challenges. Whether working on a large team or in small groups, campers develop better concept thinking skills, problem solving and give them a chance to apply interpersonal skills of communication as they learn how to work together. Activities change every year but includes things that have to be built and constructed, designed and implemented, tested and performed. Campers become inventors, creators, teammates, colleagues and collaborators in accepting the challenges of Summer Explosion.

RETURN TO TOPCamp Concepts: Expressions at George School—Special Needs CampDay Camp
July 5 -August 12, 2011
Ages 4 to 16 Boys and Girls with High Functioning Autism
Expressions at George School- A summer day camp program designed for children ages four to sixteen with High Functioning Autism (HFA), Asperger's Syndrome, Nonverbal Learning Disabilities and PDD-NOS. Expressions at George School is a special place where your child can safely enjoy a fun summer camp experience while improving and practicing his or her social skills through carefully selected interactions with typical peers.
Formed in consultation with professionals in the field and an active parent steering committee, Expressions provides a much needed program for the specific needs of its campers. In addition to a program full of age appropriate games and activities, Expressions will incorporate activities designed to develop skills in the following areas: conversation, team-building, non-verbal communication, anger management, frustration tolerance, friendship making, problem solving, emotional development and opportunities for personal creativity.
Other activities in this camp program will include arts and crafts, music and dance, swimming, acting, computers, nature, team challenge activities (including activities on our low-ropes team challenge course) hiking, stream exploration and more.
Expressions is a six-week camp with the flexibility to choose your weeks. However, because Expressions is a program designed to teach and reinforce prosocial behaviors, we strongly recommend campers attend at least two consecutive weeks in order to provide greater consistency and reinforcement in learning, allow for a smooth transition period, and ultimately achieve the most positive results for each camper.
Each camper receives a free Expressions Camp t-shirt, daily lunch in the full service cafeteria and will enjoy daily swimming in the eight-lane, twenty-five meter indoor pool. Registered nurse is on duty for the duration of the camp to administer medications and oversee camper’s health and safety.

RETURN TO TOPThe Summer MindsPrepare for the challenge of high school and college academics by attending The Summer Minds, a program that helps students from 10 to 18 years explore ideas, develop new ways of thinking, and improve public speaking skills.
Each week The Summer Minds will focus on a different area of study: humanities, math and science, and visual and performing arts. The Summer Minds High School Prep Program is designed for students from ages 10 to 13. The Summer Minds College Prep Program is designed for students from ages 14 to 18.
In both age groups, artists from the
Fourth Wall Arts community will teach master classes and perform and work with students throughout the three weeks. On Friday afternoons, students will practice the principles of public speaking—in the style of the critically acclaimed TED talks—at our Socrates’ Café.
These activities will enhance academic skills as students become more aware of themselves as learners and become confident creative thinkers.
The Summer Minds employs the Socratic method in seminar-style classes so that students have a chance to explore the relationship between knowledge and creativity in all subject areas. A week at The Summer Minds will change the way you think about knowledge. What better way to spend a week (or two or three) than learning, thinking, writing, and creating with us on George School’s 240-acre campus?
The program is divided into two age groups: High School Prep (ages 10 to 13) and
College Prep (ages 14 to 18).
