An exhibition of Yardley resident Brian Collier's photography will begin in Walton Gallery on Monday, November 1, with an opening reception on Sunday, November 7, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. The exhibition will run through November 30.
The show features both black and white and color photographs and includes landscapes from California, Colorado, Utah, and Pennsylvania, which Brian shot during a cross-country trip. A freelance photographer specializing in portraits and landscapes, Brian said that what he values most about photography is the opportunity it gives him to gain a deeper appreciation for the world around him and present his vision of it to others. "There are so many 'pieces' that make up the world around us," he said, and explained that photography allows him "to look at each piece one at a time and manipulate it in my own way."
Brian's exhibition is part of a series of shows sponsored by the George School Arts Department for the 2004-2005 academic year. All George School students take four year-long courses in the arts. In addition to photography, ceramics, painting and drawing, and woodworking and furniture design, the Arts Department offers courses in vocal and instrumental music, theater arts, dance, video production, and journalism. The Arts Department encourages students to be creative and enjoy themselves while they practice and appreciate a specific art form. In addition, students learn to be discriminating when they evaluate their own and others' work.
