A new swim program will open George School's Marshall-Platt Pool to public use for the first time. With eight lanes and a length of twenty-five meters, the pool is significantly larger than standard swimming pools. "It really is one of the best pools around here," said Sue Schmelz, aquatics director and head coach of the girls' swim team at George School. As director of the new swim program, Sue offers thirty years of experience practicing and coaching the sport, the last fourteen of which have been at George School.
Membership for the 2004-2005 academic year is $35 per individual and $60 per family. Sue will run three terms of classes and lap swimming sessions during the academic year. For Term I dates and fees, contact her at 215-579-6687. In order to allow for individual attention, enrollment will be limited, and classes will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Adult Water Aerobics, Senior Water Aerobics, and Adult Arthritis Aquatics will be held on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings. Parent/Child Swim will be held on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Enrollment is also open for two lap swimming opportunities: Community Open Swim on Thursday nights and Adult Open Swim on weekday mornings and early afternoons. Fins, kickboards, and pool buoys will be available for use in classes. Lap swimmers are welcome to bring their own equipment.
The Marshall-Platt Pool is located in Worth Sports Center on George School's wooded, 265-acre campus. Ample parking is available in front of the building. Locker rooms, showers, and bathrooms with mirrors are available for member convenience. Members are also welcome to bring hair dryers.
