All dance and music lovers are invited to an exciting annual dance production,
Dance Eclectic, on Friday and Saturday, April 29 and 30, at 8:00 p.m. in Walton Center Auditorium at George School. The event is free and open to the public.
Created under the direction of George School's artistic director and dance teacher Barbara Kibler, this upbeat production features a rich variety of student-choreographed dances, performed to music ranging from gospel to Middle Eastern. All dance students—from beginning, intermediate, and advanced classes—will perform in "Slippers, Flippers, and Boots: Dances with Shoes," a large number with choreography based on different types of footwear.
Following the Friday-night performance, audience members are invited to stay for a question-and-answer session to ask the student choreographers about their work.
All George School students take four year-long courses in the arts. In addition to dance, the arts department offers courses in instrumental and vocal music, theater arts, painting and drawing, woodworking and furniture design, ceramics, photography, video production, and journalism. The arts department encourages students to be creative and enjoy themselves while they practice and appreciate a specific art form. In addition, students learn to be discriminating when they evaluate their own and others' work.
