George School's orchestra will perform a concert with the Wind Symphony of Southern New Jersey on Sunday, January 22, 2006, at 7:30 p.m. in Walton Center Auditorium on the George School campus.

Directed by Dr. Robert J. Streckfuss, professor of music at the University of Delaware, the Wind Symphony of Southern New Jersey is an adult wind ensemble that performs eight concerts each year and has toured England and Austria.

Sunday's concert will be the Wind Symphony's fourth performance with the George School Orchestra and its seventh performance on the George School campus. Karen Hallowell, director of the George School Orchestra, was a member of the Wind Symphony from 1967 to 1998 and continues to perform with the Wind Symphony during the summer season.

Concert selections will include "Lincoln Portrait" by Aaron Copland, "Variations on a Korean Folk Song" by John Barnes Chance, and selections from Andrew Lloyd Webber's "The Phantom of the Opera," arranged by Calvin Custer.

All George School students take four, year-long courses in the arts. In addition to instrumental and vocal music, the arts department offers courses in theater arts, dance, video production, journalism, painting and drawing, woodworking and furniture design, ceramics, and photography. The arts department encourages students to be creative and enjoy themselves while they practice and appreciate a specific art form. In addition, students learn to be discriminating when they evaluate their own and others' work.
