George School's boys' varsity tennis team won the Friends Schools League (FSL) Championship on May 15, 2008, defeating Friends' Central School by a score of 3-2. This is the first time that George School has won the FSL tennis title since 1999. Friends' Central has been the FSL champion for six of the past seven seasons. Coach Pacho Gutierrez said, "I was hopeful about our chances of competing for the league title this season, especially when considering that we would have a very strong core of experienced seniors." He continued, "The serendipitous addition of two terrific freshmen proved to be the missing ingredient needed to make this a phenomenal team. We won by shutout seven times this season and finished the year with an amazing 13-2 overall record. This squad went on to one of the most impressive runs in recent memory, winning its last eleven games and finishing undefeated in league matches for the first time since 1999."
