I Hate Hamlet Debuts at George School

George School’s fall production is I Hate Hamlet, a comedy by Paul Rudnick. It tells the story of Andrew Rally, a TV soap opera star, and his trepidation at playing Hamlet in Central Park. Andrew just happens to be renting the apartment once occupied by John Barrymore and through a series of circumstances, including a séance, accidentally conjures up the ghost of John Barrymore, whose portrayal of Hamlet was the greatest of his time. The play runs Friday and Saturday, November 6 and 7, at 8:00 p.m. There will be a preview performance on Thursday, November 5 at 7:30 p.m.

Bucks Mont Sports Now reports that Jennifer Stone ’00 was a member of the winning team at the 2009 USA Field Hockey Women’s National Championship. GS Sponsors Trips to Cuba and China

George School launches its Faculty Institute for Global Service with trips to Cuba and China in July 2009. The faculty institute is part of the Global Service Program that was made possible in part through an Educational Leadership Grant from the Edward E. Ford Foundation in 2008. The Global Service Program is designed to enhance the scope and quality of international service trips for secondary students by providing training programs for adult leaders and by providing transformative experiences for students. The student component will begin in 2010.

Snow Forecast Impacts Exam Schedule

Exams planned for Monday March 2 will proceed as scheduled for all boarders and any day students on campus. Day students off campus have several options as the weather forecast for Philadelphia at this time is for eight to sixteen inches of snow between Sunday, March 1 and Monday, March 2.

GS Athlete Inducted into Hall of Fame

Remarkable George School athlete E. Leroy "Roy" Mercer Sr., Class of 1909, was posthumously inducted into the Pennsylvania Track and Field Coaches Association (PTFCA) Hall of Fame on February 21, 2009, at the PTFCA Indoor State Championship, an event in which Emily Mapelli '12 competed.

George School musical theater and stagecraft students will present "The Fantasticks" by Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt on Friday, February 20, 2009, and Saturday, February 21, 2009, at 8:00 p.m. in Walton Center Auditorium. The world’s longest-running musical, "The Fantasticks" is a romantic comedy about a young boy and a young girl who live next door to each other and fall in love in spite of a feud between their families.
