GS Sponsors Trips to Cuba and China

Issued: Monday, March 2, 2009

George School launches its Faculty Institute for Global Service with trips to Cuba and China in July 2009.

The faculty institute is part of the Global Service Program that was made possible in part through an Educational Leadership Grant from the Edward E. Ford Foundation in 2008. The Global Service Program is designed to enhance the scope and quality of international service trips for secondary students by providing training programs for adult leaders and by providing transformation experiences for students.  The student component will begin in 2010.

George School's history of international service began in 1947 when the school took part in post-World War II reconciliation efforts with schools in Germany.

Head of School Nancy Starmer is pleased that George School, through its new Global Service Program, can teach others about what its faculty members have learned from the school's sixty-plus years of experience in providing transformative learning opportunities to students. The faculty institute is designed to help teachers from other schools learn how to design and implement successful international service programs for their own students.
