George School is carefully watching the status of swine influenza outbreak in the United States. There is no swine flu at George School and there is one confirmed case in Pennsylvania as of May 5, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. ET.
In a press release on May 3, 2009, Governor Edward Rendell announced Pennsylvania’s first laboratory-confirmed case of 2009 A/H1N1 in a 31-year-old man in suburban Philadelphia’s Montgomery County. The Associated Press said the governor “told reporters at a late afternoon news conference that the man had recently arrived from Mexico but had recovered.”
We are taking a proactive approach to be prepared for any possible outbreak and are tracking information as it is reported by the Center for Disease Control on a regular basis. We will keep the greater school community informed of any new information by posting it on our website and by sending it in emails to parents when needed.
Right now, the Center for Disease Control recommends that everyone wash hands frequently to prevent infection and to stay away from others who exhibit flu symptoms. More information is available at the Center for Disease Control website at
