New York Times recently highlighted Sheena Wright ’86, president and CEO of Abyssinian Development Corporation, a not-for-profit community development corporation in New York City that works to build the human, social, and physical resources of Harlem. In the article, entitled “To Believe Despite the Odds,” Sheena recalls how her life goals began to form during her childhood in the South Bronx, where she was raised by a single mother whose commitment to education inspired Sheena. “Her example made me believe that I could achieve what I set out to do. I also thought that my life should be about service,” Sheena says in the article. The
New York Times piece traces the path Sheena took from the South Bronx to George School, Columbia University, and a law career before she joined Abyssinian Development Corporation.
