Thirty-two George School athletes—representing softball, track and field, lacrosse, baseball, tennis, and soccer—were honored in the “Spring 2009 Golden Teams” section of the
Bucks County Courier Times.
Emily Mapelli ’12 and Aly Passanante ’10 received First Team honors for
girls’ track and field and
girls’ soccer, respectively. Emily, recognized for her high jump performance, earned additional track and field recognition as a Pennsylvania Independent Schools champion, a Friends Schools League (FSL) champion, and a member of the FSL’s All-League First Team. Aly, a forward with sixteen goals and fourteen assists, was named to the FSL’s All-League First Team for girls’ soccer, as well as the all-Southeastern Pennsylvania and all-state teams for the sport.
Second Team honorees included Dave Foppert ’09 (a
boys’ lacrosse attacker and FSL All-League First Team member),
boys’ tennis singles player Jason Sisti ’11, and five members of the
girls’ track and field team: in the shot put, Pennsylvania Independent Schools champion Jil Mahrer ’10; in the 100 hurdles, Xavia Bethea ’09 (fifth at the Pennsylvania Independent Schools Championships); in the 300 hurdles, Chrissy Haney ’12 (fourth at the championships); in the high jump, Natalie Ryan ’09 (second at the championships); and in the discus, Jessica Mooberry ’10 (fourth at the championships). Liz Stevens ’09 was named to the Second Team for both
girls’ lacrosse (in which she was a midfielder) and
girls’ soccer (a sport in which she achieved six goals and twelve assists). She was also an FSL All-League First Team member for both sports.
