After leading summer service projects in China and Cuba as part of the school’s recent Faculty Institute for Global Service, three George School teachers spoke with the Bucks County Courier Times about their experiences. The faculty institute was the first event offered through George School’s new Global Service Program. The newspaper interviewed language teacher and department head Chéri Mellor (who co-led the trip to China with science teacher Steven Fletcher), as well as Cuba trip leaders Fran Bradley (history teacher) and Molly Stephenson (language teacher).

Twenty-two educators from seventeen schools in ten states convened at George School on Monday, July 6, 2009, to launch the Global Service Program—a new opportunity designed to enhance the scope and quality of international service trips for secondary school students. Following two days of workshops conducted by George School faculty on campus, twelve participants traveled to China to help rebuild a community devastated by the 2008 earthquake, while eight educators went to Cuba to repair a Quaker church that was damaged in a 2008 hurricane.
