Year-End Gifts Benefit GS and Donors

Issued: Wednesday, December 16, 2009

In this season of giving, please consider a gift to George School. Donations from alumni, parents, and friends enable us to support our talented, dedicated faculty; to maintain and enhance our beautiful campus; and to sustain our commitment to diversity through financial aid and merit scholarships.

If you make a gift on or before December 31, 2009, and you itemize your deductions on your 2009 income tax statement, you could receive a tax deduction for your donation to George School. Please keep in mind that the gift date, which is used for tax purposes, is the postmark date in the case of cash or checks. For donations by credit card, the gift date is the day the charge is posted to the card holder’s account. To make a gift to the Annual Fund online now, please visit our secure website.

This time of year also offers other potential benefits to donors. There can be substantial tax advantages to making a gift of appreciated securities. In addition, if you are at least seventy-and-a-half years old and own an IRA retirement account, an opportunity exists for you to make a tax-free charitable gift directly from your IRA to George School. Time may be limited, as the laws for the IRA program expire on December 31, 2009.

If you need to reach the Advancement and Development Office between December 28 and 31, 2009, please call 215.579.6564 or email advancement@georgeschool.org, and a staff member will be available to reply to your voicemails or emails between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
