More than four hundred alumni, friends, and family members attended the 2010 Alumni Weekend at George School. Open to all parents, students, and alumni, the weekend started with Flashback Friday—an opportunity to attend classes as if you were a George School student—and a Friday night Open Mike event showcasing George School talent. Everyone enjoyed the opportunity to participate in non-stop events right through Sunday’s meeting for worship.
This year’s Alumni Award recipients were Karen Sulzberger ’70 and Donaldson Romeo ’80. Karen was recognized for helping make history more meaningful through her work with Facing History and Ourselves, the Boston-based international educational program that examines the roles of prejudice, apathy, and fear in history and engages nearly two million students each year. Donaldson was recognized for his ongoing fight to help his native Montserrat—a small Caribbean island and British overseas territory—regain self-sufficiency in the wake of devastating natural disasters.
Saturday afternoon began with lunch and reunion class photos followed by an equestrian demonstration and alumni games featuring boys’ baseball and lacrosse, and girls’ softball and lacrosse. At 3:30 p.m. we gathered in the meetinghouse for a memorial meeting for worship to celebrate the lives of deceased classmates and friends, faculty, and staff.
On Sunday, May 9, meeting for worship was held in the meetinghouse at 10:45 a.m.
All in all, it was not only a weekend to reconnect with George School but also a time to renew old friendships and undoubtedly forge new ones.
