GS Athletes Deliver Outstanding Season

Three George School teams—
varsity golf,
varsity girls’ track, and
varsity boys’ tennis—brought home first-place team or individual honors in the
Friends Schools League (FSL) championships this spring season.
The

The four students were all selected to the FSL all-league First Team in golf.
Varsity
girls’ track also
won the FSL championship, ending the season undefeated (10-0) and setting every school record from the 200-meter dash up to the 3200-meter run including all the relay races. Five girls were named to the FSL all-league First Team: Jessie Mooberry ’10 of Unionville, Pennsylvania, Priscilla Wiggins ’12 of Hopewell, New Jersey, Chrissy Haney ’12 of Winchester, Massachusetts, Emily Mapelli ’12 of Plainsboro, New Jersey, and Jacqueline Jones ’13 of West Bristol, Pennsylvania. Several team members are ranked in the top one hundred state rankings, garnering status as MileSplit elite athletes under the standards set by the track and field network MileSplit U.S. in Pennsylvania.
The varsity
boys’ tennis team also had a memorable season. They finished with an impressive overall record of 13 wins, 3 losses, and 1 tie. For the second year in a row, they finished 7-2 in league play, reached the finals, and ended up earning second place in the Friends Schools League. In the post season, the boys captured two out of five individual FSL titles—Jason Sisti ’11 from Yardley, Pennsylvania at First Singles and Devon Pinkus ’11 of Bensalem, Pennsylvania at Third Singles. Jason and Devon, along with Jake Fridman ’10 of Yardley, Pennsylvania, were named to the FSL all-league First Team in tennis, while Lenny Gottlieb of Richboro, Pennsylvania, was named to the Honorable Mention Team. The junior varsity tennis team had an outstanding season as well, with a 10-2 record.

Rebecca Gerecke ’10 of Princeton, New Jersey, was the team’s starting catcher for the past three years and was selected for the all-league Honorable Mention Team.
