George School Golfer Kellie Edelblut Signs with Division I College

Issued: Wednesday, November 10, 2010

George School senior Kellie Edelblut of New Hope, Pennsylvania, signed a national letter of intent today to play Division I golf at The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia.

Kellie is scheduled to play her fourth season on George School’s varsity golf team this spring, and has contributed to the team’s two consecutive Friends Schools League (FSL) championship wins in 2009 and 2010, the second of which ended a perfect 15-0 season for the team. She is the only female member of George School’s golf team and one of the few in the FSL. Kellie has also played on the varsity girls’ soccer team for four seasons, contributing to two consecutive FSL championship wins and serving as captain this year.

“Kellie has been our strongest player for the last two years,” said head varsity golf coach Chip Poston, a religion teacher who coaches the team with assistant coach Paul Machemer, a math teacher. “The team had an extraordinary season last spring, winning all fifteen contests—the only perfect season I’ve had a team achieve in over twenty years of coaching. Kellie’s consistent play and her quiet leadership were foundational to these accomplishments,” said Chip.

Kellie remarked, “I’ll never forget the incredible teammates that I have been with the past few years. These guys have been like brothers to me, always having my best interest and the team’s interest in mind. They, as well as Chip and Paul, deserve much of the credit for my Friends League success.”

In addition to playing golf for George School, Kellie has competed in junior golf tours, winning the Girls 15-19 Division Championship of the International Junior Golf Tour and earning a runner-up trophy at the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour, both in April of 2010.

“Receiving a Division I scholarship is a tremendous accomplishment, and Kellie’s achievement comes as no surprise to those who know her,” said George School Girls’ Athletic Director Nancy Bernardini. “She is not only a terrific athlete and a fierce competitor, but also a talented student and a model citizen who genuinely cares about the people around her.”
