Varsity girls' indoor track team member Priscilla Wiggins '12 qualified for the mile run at the Pennsylvania Indoor Track Championship. She came into the state competition ranked 15th in the state (5:15.73 PR) overall.
At State, Priscilla ran in the first heat and after the first lap she was firmly in the back of the pack. She began to pick her way through the pack over the next few laps and with three laps to go, she made her move on the leaders. "With a lap to go, Priscilla was in third place but ran a ridiculous split to pass the two remaining girls and finish a full three seconds ahead of the second place runner" said coach Stephen Moyer '82. "She finished with a new personal record (PR) and a George School indoor/outdoor record time of 5:09.15."
The second heat ran a great race setting some of the fastest times in the nation this year. When the dust settled, Priscilla's 5:09.15 placed her in the eighth and final medal position. All eight of the top times were the fastest of the season in Pennsylvania.
Priscilla ends the indoor season ranked eighth in the state overall and second in the state for her class. She is ranked 102nd in the country and 13th in her class nationally. She has also earned Mile Split First Team status and her new PR and has qualified her to run in several national events this spring, including the Penn Relays open mile.
Emily Mapelli '12 qualified for the second year in a row to compete at Indoor State Championships for the high jump. She cleared the opening height on her first attempt and then went out at 5 feet, placing fourteenth. Emily ends the indoor season ranked ninth in the state overall, and fourth for the Class of 2012. She has met the Mile Split US second team standard (5' 2") for the second year in a row, and is currently ranked 146th nationally overall, and 27th in the Class of 2012.
Richie Schulz ’11 narrowly missed qualifying for State in two events. He ends the season ranked 66th in the state in the 400-meter dash, 54th in the 55-meter dash.
