On Monday morning, November 8, George School had a lockdown drill to practice our preparedness in the event of an intruder or criminal act. Students were notified about an upcoming drill and were given instructions about what to do when they hear the siren. Faculty and staff members have been trained throughout the academic year in preparation for this new form of safety drill.
Fire drills are a regular occasion on campus, happening ten to twelve times a month. This lockdown drill was the second one held on the George School campus.
Doug Walters, director of safety and security, has been working in concert with the Middletown Township Police and emergency coordinators to establish proper procedures. They were present on campus with several emergency vehicles monitoring the lockdown drill. All access roads to the campus were blocked until the drill is completed.
Students have been instructed to go to a room, lock all doors and windows, and remain in their place of escape, out of sight, and quiet until a clear signal has been issued.
