The newly completed
Cougar Track and Cougar Field will be named in honor of four legendary coaches whose dedication has made athletics such an important part of the history and life of the George School community. Each coach will be recognized at a separate event and
registration for these events is now available online.
The first event is a dinner in honor of John Gleeson ’65 on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at the Northampton Valley Country Club. On Saturday, March 31, 2012 Anne LeDuc will be honored at the Middletown Country Club, followed by David Satterthwaite ’65 on Saturday, April 21, 2011 at the Yardley Country Club, and Robert Geissinger on Friday, May 11, 2012 at the Middletown Country Club.
“These events honoring our coaches are a wonderful way to recognize that the playing field is where many of the strongest relationships that develop here at George School begin,” said Nancy Starmer, head of school. “The lessons learned on the field such as teamwork, collaboration, time management, sportsmanship, and joy in reaching a common goal are integral parts of a George School education.”
These individual events will precede the formal dedication of the new Cougar Track and Cougar Field on Saturday, May 12, 2012 during Alumni Weekend. The new all-weather running track will be named in David Sattherthwaite’s honor and the synthetic turf field will be named in honor of Anne LeDuc, Robert Geissinger, and John Gleeson.
“Many of us can trace values we hold as adults back to lessons we learned from our George School coaches,” said Ari Betof '98, director of institutional advancement. “Each of these four coaches has a special place in the highlight reel of George School athletics. So many of the alumni I have talked with are looking forward to honoring these coaches, teachers, and mentors while seeing teammates and reviving the thrill of historic victories.”
