Pippin, the tale of a young prince on his search for personal significance, comes to the George School stage in Walton Center Auditorium on Friday and Saturday, May 18 and 19, 2012. The hip, tongue-in-cheek fairy tale, which captivated Broadway audiences in the 1970s, features an energetic pop-influenced musical score.

Chris Odom Reaches Hot Springs on Thru-Hike of Appalachian Trail

George School’s resident rocket scientist and science teacher Chris Odom checked in today from Hot Springs North Carolina, posting the record of his twenty-fifth day on the Appalachian National Scenic Trail (AT) via his blog, “Stats on the A.T.” On sabbatical for this term, Chris left on Tuesday, March 13, 2012 to follow his life-long dream of hiking the AT.

Community Service Trips Forge Bonds

George School students traveled around the world immersing themselves in languages, exploring new countries, and performing community service projects during their recent spring break. They visited South Africa, Mississippi, France, Nicaragua, and Washington D.C. They built houses with Habitat for Humanity, worked as teacher assistants, repaired schools and health clinics, and supported food banks and food kitchens.

Graduate Empowers Students

As a student teacher at University City High School, Andrew Biros ’06 hopes to instill in his students a sense of empowerment. The 24-year-old George School graduate noticed that some of his students felt helpless about the criminal activity they see on a daily basis. As part of his work as a graduate student in education at the University of Pennsylvania, Andrew has made it his focus to help these teens advocate for change.

Exhibit Features GS Ceramics and Sculpture Teacher

An outdoor public exhibition at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia features the work of Ceramics and Sculpture teacher Amedeo Salamoni. The sculpture, which is on display through April 30, is located at the University of the Arts, Broad and Pine Streets. There will be a public reception on April 6 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Thirteen George School athletes representing basketball, wrestling, and swimming were honored on the Friends Schools League’s roster of winter 2011-12 all-league teams. A coeducational high school athletic league made up of nine Philadelphia-area independent schools, the Friends Schools League is founded on Quaker principles and fosters respectful behavior and good sportsmanship on the playing field.

The School at Church Farm (CFS) held its 25th annual Wrestling Tournament on January 7, 2012. Tommy Lodge-Yanez ’12 took first place in the 152-pound weight class. The Varsity Boys’ Wrestling team placed sixth overall, ahead of most of the other Friends Schools League schools.

George School students, faculty, and staff will spend Monday, January 16, 2012 in service to local communities to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. King encouraged people from all walks of life to come together to address important community issues.

Exhibit Offers a Reflection of Iran

Iranian-born photographer Sanaz Labafzadeh’s Reflection: An Installation by Sanaz Rahimlabafzadeh, is on exhibit in the Class of 1956 Gallery, Anderson Library from January 3, 2012 to February 24, 2012. A gallery talk and reception is scheduled on Thursday, January 12 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.

Student Photos to be in Drexel Exhibit

Six George School photography students had work selected for the 2011 Drexel University High School Photography Contest Exhibit. The images are among 140 chosen from more than 1,850 photographs submitted by high school students across the United States.
