On Friday, January 20 and Saturday, January 21, 2012, the boys’ and girls’ indoor track team participated in the prestigious Yale High School Track and Field Classic on Yale University's banked Mondo track surface, one of the fastest tracks on the east coast.
Three school records were set in the Friday night relays.
The first race of the night for the Cougars boys resulted in the first record with Alex Atwater ’13, Evan Clinton ’13, Jake McGuinness ’13, and Zander Giuffrida ’12 breaking the distance medley relay record that was itself set only a few weeks ago. The new record now stands at 11:57.77 eclipsing the old record by over twenty-one seconds.
Later, Alex and Jake were back on the track for the 4x800 meter relay. Now paired with Jojo Das ’13, and Trevor Centeno-Hall ’12, the foursome set a new record of 9:31.82, breaking the school record of 9:53.71 set back in December of 2010.
The girls’ 4x400 meter relay squad of Francesca Aldrich ’12, Julia Um ’12, Emily Mapelli ’12, and Chrissy Haney ’12 placed fifth overall and ran their fastest time of the year, 4:15.10. In the 4x200 meter relay, they broke the record set a few weeks ago and set a new record of 1:53.60. They also placed fifth overall in the event.
