The orchestra, string ensemble, wind ensemble, and Lab Band will present an Instrumental Concert in the George School Meetinghouse on Sunday, January 29, 2012 at 3:00 p.m.
The program will feature the orchestra playing
Variations on a Korean Folk Song, by John Barnes Chance. The string ensemble will perform
Concerto for Two Violins in D Minor, by Antonio Vivaldi, among its three pieces. For the wind ensemble’s three selections, teacher Steve Heitzer chose “a mix of modern and iconic,” the latter represented by “Mars” from
The Planets, by Gustav Holst. But, Steve thinks, the Lab Band may have the coolest piece of all—
Incantations, by Robert W. Smith—which he describes as having a retro “’70s-TV-show-theme-sound.”
The Instrumental Concert is one of
nine performances organized by the George School Arts Department for the 2011-12 year. The
Arts Department offers classes in visual and performing arts, including photography, digital imaging, video production, woodworking and design, communication design, painting and drawing, ceramics, stagecraft, theater arts, theater performance, musical theater, dance, vocal and instrumental performance, and music theory, with
Advanced Placement and
International Baccalaureate course options. For more information about the arts at George School, and a complete schedule of performances and exhibits, visit
