Drexel Photography High School Contest

A photo submitted by Emily Alterman ’12 has received an Honorable Mention in the 2011 Drexel University High School Photography Contest. Emily’s photo, along with five other George School photography students’ work, will be exhibited at Drexel University from February 4, 2012 through March 2, 2012.
The contest received more than 1,850 images from across the United States, with only 140 images selected to be exhibited, from which six award winners were chosen. In addition to Emily, Faith Gentilucci ’14, Dylan Jalowiec ’13, Chesa Sacchi ’14, Aka Skhirtladze ’12, and Jack Wong ’12 will have their work featured in the upcoming exhibit.
The students’ work will be on display at Drexel’s photography gallery located at the Photography Facility on 33rd and Arch streets. The opening reception will be on Saturday, February 4, 2012 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Photography Gallery, which is located on the fourth floor of the Paul Peck Problem Solving & Research Building located on the northeast corner of 33rd and Arch streets (101 North 33rd Street). The exhibit will be open Monday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 8:00 p.m.
Students in the photography program at George School learn to photograph what inspires and motivates them. The creative process each student undertakes is often informed by the history of the medium, current affairs, social concerns, and the exploration of personal identity.
For Emily, photography is the ultimate form of expression. “It’s one way I can express myself,” said Emily. “I do a lot of self-portraits with masks. I like to experiment when I have a vision.”
