Pippin Opens May 18

Pippin, the tale of a young prince on his search for personal significance, comes to the George School stage in Walton Center Auditorium on Friday and Saturday, May 18 and 19, 2012. The hip, tongue-in-cheek fairy tale, which captivated Broadway audiences in the 1970s, features an energetic pop-influenced musical score.

Friends Council on Education Converges on Campus

The Friends Council on Education, the national organization representing one hundred Friends Schools nationwide, celebrated its 80th anniversary by holding its annual meeting at George School on Tuesday, April 24, 2012. The Council chose its meeting location this year in recognition of the 200th anniversary of George School’s Meetinghouse.

The Importance of Being Earnest Opens

Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest, a perennial audience favorite, is coming to the George School stage February 24 and 25, 2012, at 8:00 p.m. The Importance of Being Earnest was first performed in 1895 and has been defined as a “Comedy of Manners.”

Day of Service Honors Legacy of Dr. King

Driven by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s message of “Everybody can be great because anybody can serve,” George School students, faculty, and staff spent a day in service to local communities. To celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. King, George School organized service opportunities at thirty-two sites throughout Philadelphia, Bucks County, and New Jersey.

“Occupy North Pole” Dance Promotes Harmony

Each year, George School dance students and their teacher collaborate to produce a show that is entertaining for the audience. This year’s theme, Occupy North Pole, can be seen as a modern-day version of A Christmas Carol, where Ebenezer Scrooge’s heart is touched by a child.

George School Hosts Pioneering Alumnus Julian Bond ’57

George School is proud to welcome civil rights pioneer H. Julian Bond to campus for an all-school assembly and discussions with students and faculty on Friday, September 9, 2011. Julian, a member of the George School Class of 1957, will be interviewed by Mark K. Updegrove ’80, director of the Lyndon B. Johnson Library in Austin, TX since 2009.

Sculpture Class Designs New Artwork for Library Gardens

Students from George School’s Mixed Media Sculpture class collaborated on a new sculpture for the gardens located in front of the Mollie Dodd Anderson Library. Installed at the end of the 2011 school year, the artwork represents the culmination of the skills students learned throughout the year in classes.

George School is proud to announce that 2011 graduate Myra Jacobs is one of 1,000 students nationwide to be named a Gates Millennium Scholar. Selected on the basis of academic achievement, community service, and leadership potential, Gates Millennium Scholars receive college scholarships, leadership training, and mentoring.

Miracle League Holds Softball Festival at George School

The George School campus will be the site of a weekend-long program for special needs athletes from Friday, June 17, to Sunday June 19, when The Miracle League of Northampton Township holds its first Softball Festival. The event is one of several projects through which George School has collaborated with the Miracle League, an organization that provides opportunities for individuals with mental and physical disabilities to participate in sports.

Student Work Exhibited at Philadelphia Invitational Furniture Show

Twelve George School students exhibited their furniture creations, made in the school’s woodworking and furniture design classes, at the 17th Annual Philadelphia Invitational Furniture Show. Considered the country’s longest-running craft show devoted to furniture and furnishings, the event took place on March 26 and 27, 2011 at the Cruise Ship Terminal in the Philadelphia Navy Yard.

Students Organize Art for Relief

George School’s sixth annual Art for Relief will be held on Saturday, April 9. A student-organized night of art that brings together school and local community members to raise money for relief efforts, the event includes an art show and silent auction. Admission is free and open to the public. Donations are encouraged in support of this year’s beneficiary, the Philly Youth Poetry Movement.

Grease Debuts at George School

George School Musical Theater and Stagecraft students bring Grease, one of America’s favorite musicals, to life at Walton Auditorium on Friday and Saturday, February 18 and 19, 2011, at 8:00 p.m. Created by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey, Grease has enjoyed continued success since its premiere in 1971, and remains one of Broadway’s longest running shows. The performances are free and open to the public.

Four Days at GS Celebrate Dr. King

George School will be in session on January 17 for its twenty-second annual all-day commemoration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. In addition, a new themed weekend of student activities on January 14 through 16, Unity Weekend, will explore Dr. King’s message of multiculturalism, diversity, service, and peace.

Peter Cunicelli Exhibits Ceramics at GS

Swooping curves, sharp edges, complex surfaces, and a lively energy characterize the twenty-five pieces in Peter Cunicelli’s ceramics and sculpture exhibit at George School. Extending over more than a century, George School's remarkable history now takes center stage on the school's award-winning website with the recent launch of a new "Our History" microsite. The site, located at www.georgeschool.org/history, includes new video content, more than 500 historic photographs, and fifty pages of facts organized in a timeline format.

Renowned Poet Sonia Sanchez at GS

Renowned poet Sonia Sanchez appeared at George School on Monday, October 25, 2010, at an all-school assembly in Walton Center Auditorium. She read from her first new book in over a decade, Morning Haiku, which celebrates revered African American figures in the realms of music, literature, art, and activism.

Renovated History Building Opens

George School students are learning history in seven new, high-tech, and eco-friendly classrooms now that the renovated McFeely building has opened for classes with the start of the new school year. A seven-month green renovation has transformed the McFeely building, once the school’s library, into the home of the History Department.
