Alumni Weekend Planned for May 13, 14, and 15
More than four hundred alumni, friends, and family members will attend the 2011 Alumni Weekend at George School. Open to all parents, students, and alumni, the weekend will start on Friday, May 13, with an all-school assembly featuring the George School Chorale and end on Sunday, May 15, at the All-Community Fair on Red Square. Mabel Houghton to Retire at School Year End
Mabel Houghton will retire at the end of this academic year after thirty-nine years in education. Members of the George School community will honor her at the All-Alumni Gathering at Alumni Weekend on Saturday, May 14, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. in the meetinghouse. Read more.
Reed Goossen Plans to Retire
IB/AP Biology teacher Reed Goossen announced plans to retire at the end of the 2010-11 school year after teaching for more than thirty-seven years. Members of the George School community will honor him at the All-Alumni Gathering at Alumni Weekend on Saturday, May 14, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. in the meetinghouse. Read more.
Students Teach and Learn in France
Twelve George School students spent their spring break honing their French, helping to teach young children, and getting to know their peers at Lycée Alfred Kastler, a French high school with which George School has held an exchange program since 1957. This was all part of George School’s service and language trip to France. Read more.
Students Build Mississippi Homes
Building affordable housing in an impoverished region, enjoying potluck dinners with local community members, and spending an evening at a blues club were all part of spring break for the nine students on George School’s service trip to Mississippi. Read more.
Governing Board Celebrates Twenty Years of Success
Over seventy guests attended a reunion event on Friday evening, April 8, 2011, to celebrate twenty years of remarkable achievements at George School. The event to honor former members of the George School Committee (the school’s governing board) was hosted by former committee clerk John Hunt, outgoing clerk David Bruton ’53, incoming clerk Richard Segel, and Head of School Nancy Starmer.
