“Even when people at George School don’t comprehend what you are all about, they can at least see where you are coming from.”

Tell about your favorite class and why.

Advanced Algebra with Paul Machemer is a bit like running after a car that is slowly accelerating—and hoping for the best. At the beginning of the year, the car went slowly, and I learned new things from reading all the stuff written on the bumper. Not just math, but intriguing stories and history lessons that all ended with clever puns.

By the end of the year, the car was speeding, and I was sprinting after it. But, amazingly, I was keeping up. That was my most interesting class because of a most interesting teacher.

More about Ryan:

Ryan is an editor for Curious George, the school newspaper, which also serves as his International Baccalaureate art class. Though he prefers layout to reporting, he enjoys poetry and is also a contributor to Argo, the literary magazine. Ryan also was one of the leads in the latest revival of West Side Story. A soccer player for many years, he took up lacrosse when he got to George School and now loves it.
