New Student Registration

Welcome to George School! Listed below are the registration steps for new students for the 2012-13 academic year. You can download a summary checklist for your bulletin board, but be sure to review the details here. Once we receive your contract and deposit, you should contact Gretchen van Horn when you have questions about the registration process. For other questions, our Registration Help list provides names, email addresses, and telephone numbers of individuals you may contact for additional help.

WHAT TO DO RIGHT NOW

1. Pay deposit. Your deposit is due at the same time your signed contract is due. You can make your payment online on the Applicant Information tab of our secure portal using your current admission applicant login.

2. Verify email address. Please note that your enrollment contract requires that you specify at least one email address for each parent or guardian who should have access to the portal and to whom we can send a confidential username and password. Families who return their signed contract and deposit by April 10, will be sent login information on April 10. After that date, it will be sent within two to three business days after receipt of your deposit and signed enrollment contract. (Students receive their login for the student portal when they arrive for Registration Weekend on September 1.)

3. Sign your contract and mail it to George School. Contracts are due by the date specified on the front of your contract. Once you receive your username and password, you will be able to go online to complete the registration process.

4. Verify current contact information. It is very important that our contact information for you is current. Changes can be made anytime throughout the year on the Contact Information section of the parent portal.

5. Complete payment plan information. If you plan to take advantage of George School's Automatic Ten-Month Payment plan, complete the application.

6. Schedule physical exam. All students must have a new physical exam prior to the start of each school year. The required forms are available online. Be sure to schedule an appointment soon and submit the completed form by August 1. Please note that many insurance companies allow one physical exam per calendar year, so check with your insurance company.

6. Submit proof of health insurance. George School requires all students to have comprehensive health insurance. If your current plan does not meet our criteria, you will need to purchase UnitedHealthcare insurance provided through George School. Details are on the first page of the Health Insurance Information and New Student Physical Exam form.

7. Mark your calendar today. Don’t miss these and other important dates.
May 9, 2012 Tentative student course list with required placement tests posted online
July 16, 2012 Proof of health insurance and Community Directory photo due
August 1, 2012 All health forms due

September 1-2, 2012 Registration weekend: All new students required to attend
September 3, 2012 Classes begin at 8:00 a.m. on Labor Day

8. Review Academic Calendar for 2012-13. Check the academic calendar for exam times and vacation days. Plan travel arrangements around these dates. Please note that students cannot change the times of their end-of-term exams to accomodate travel. Refer to our Travel Guidelines.

9. Request final High School Transcript. Every new sophomore, junior, and senior needs to complete the High School Transcript Request. Please give it to your current school when the 2011-12 year is over so that we have a final transcript from your previous school for our records.

10. Request Foreign Language Proficiency forms. If your child plans to continue studying Chinese, French, Latin, or Spanish at George School, have his or her current language teacher complete the appropriate Language Proficiency form before the current school year ends. It can be difficult to contact teachers during the summer, so do this as soon as possible. It is helpful if we receive this form before your placement test date(s).

11. International students must complete the Parent Communication Agreement/Guardian Supervision form.

If you have any questions, contact Gretchen van Horn by email or by telephone at 215.579.6530.
