October 28The popular panoramic all-school photograph will be taken on Friday morning on South Lawn. To see last year’s photos, go to Panfoto's website. New photographs will be available for online purchase in October with free shipping if preordered. 

October 30Seniors will receive an email by October 15 listing the name they want on their diploma and commencement program, as well as the hometown listed on the program. They will need to confirm this information by October 30, which gives them a chance to confer with you over Visiting Day.

September 5 to October 7. Faculty Art Exhibition in Walton Gallery.

September 5 to October 21David Fraser ’61 exhibits baskets in the Class of 1956 Gallery in the Anderson Library. 

October 10 to November 2.
 Student Art Work is exhibited in Main lobby and Walton Center.

October 12. The George School Student Health Center will offer seasonal flu vaccines to students and staff on Wednesday beginning at 2:30 p.m. in the Coffeehouse in Marshall Center. Submit a request form to reserve a flu shot for your child.

October 14. Fall break begins after the last class on Friday.

October 15. Visiting Day is an opportunity to follow your child’s class schedule and meet their teachers. Teacher conferences are optional during Visiting Day as it is early in the school year. Advance scheduling for conferences is required. Online conference scheduling is available. 

October 15. The SOURCE Institute for Human Performance at George School will hold an open house on Saturday. Please call 215.579.6698 or email info@sourcepa.com for details.

October 17. No classes are held on Monday.

October 17. Boarders return by 7:00 p.m. on Monday.

October 18. Classes resume on Tuesday.

October 18. Visiting Night is from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Parent/teacher conferences can be scheduled in advance. Online conference scheduling is available. Online conference scheduling is available.

October 23. Beginning this week, freshmen and new sophomores will receive an email notice with a link to sign up for required workshops presented during the weekend of November 4 to 6. The workshops are presented by the Freedom from Chemical Dependency Foundation.

October 23. The Admission Office holds its annual Open House on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. for prospective students and their families. Please encourage your friends and neighbors to attend. Also, the Parents Association is looking for 10 to 12 parent volunteers for Admission Ambassadors to help during this event.

October 28 to December 16. Randy Bolton exhibits printmaking work on campus.

November 4 to 6. Freshmen and new sophomore students are required to attend workshops given by consultants from the Freedom from Chemical Dependency Foundation. Students will attend two workshops during the weekend. Parents will receive an email with more detailed information closer to the date. If you have family commitments that weekend, your child will be able to register for a specific group.

November 14 to17. Term 1 exams are held this week. Students leave for break after their last exam.

November 17School portrait retake day is on Thursday. Forms available online.

November 18. The Teacher/Staff Appreciation Luncheon will be held on Friday in Main dining room. We are hoping parent volunteers who live in the area can bring food. If you do not live nearby you can help by making a monetary donation so that we can supplement the food and flowers as needed. Send checks to Odie LeFever, PMB 4438 at George School.

November 18 to 28. Thanksgiving break, no classes.

November 28. Boarders return by 7:00 p.m.

November 29. Classes resume at 8:00 a.m.

December 5 to January 20. Aldo Magazzeni exhibits photography in Walton Center.

December 6. Parents Association meeting is held in the Anderson Library Conference Room on Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. A light meal is held beforehand in the meetinghouse from 5:30 to 6:20 p.m.

February 3 to 7. Mid-winter break ski trip to Smuggler’s Notch, Vermont. Details to follow at a later time.

Reminders

Admission Ambassadors. The Parents Association is seeking 10 to 12 parent volunteers to serve as Admission Ambassadors. Admission Ambassadors speak with prospective families during a school visit or follow up a visit by email or phone. Ambassadors also help at Admission events, including the Open House scheduled on Sunday, October 23 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. If you can help, please let us know by completing the volunteer survey.

Community Directory. The George School Community Directory was mailed at the end of September. If you have not received your copy yet, it should arrive any day.

Parents Association Volunteer Opportunities. Please take a moment to look at the descriptions of the volunteer opportunities available for the 2011-2012 school year and sign-up via this electronic survey. We particularly need volunteers for the Bookstore, Café ’83, Cookie Drop, Lasagna Dinner, and Party Planning Committees. Please contact committee chairs directly if you have questions.

Parents Association Dues. Your Parents Association dues provide essential funds to subsidize the George School Community Directory each year. Our Parents Association is extremely active in enhancing the George School experience for students and their families.

Service Trips. For information on service trip opportunities through George School and through the Global Service Program, visit our website.

International Baccalaureate (IB) ExaminationsThe registration process for IB exams in May is underway. All fees for exams are set by the International Baccalaureate Organization. 

Annual Fund. The Parent Annual Fund Committee (PAFC) would like to remind families to keep an eye out for the "Three Reasons Why" appeal brochure, which should be arriving in mailboxes around the end of October. The committee's goal is to reach 100 percent parent participation this year. Gifts of all sizes are appreciated. If you have any questions, please contact Emily Shaker.

Ground Transportation Information.
If your child is traveling and needs ground transportation assistance to campus, please visit our website for contact information. 

George School Bookstore online. Visit our online bookstore this month for your favorite sweatshirt, hat, or socks.

Day Student Vehicle Registration. Day students must register all vehicles they expect to drive and park on campus. Registration is handled by Emergency Services throughout the academic year. Students should immediately report any midyear changes in vehicle or vehicle registration to Emergency Services.

Bicycle Registration. Bicycles need to be registered through Emergency Services and obtain a decal.

Parents Association Archives. To view recordings of Parents Association webcast meetings, go to our secure portal—my.georgeschool.org—enter your password, and login. Then select Parents Association. You will see a list of recorded meetings under Parents Association Meetings.

Parents Association Future Meetings. Parents Association meetings are held in the Anderson Library Conference Room on Tuesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. on December 6, 2011, February 28, 2012, and May 15, 2012. All meetings are webcast. 

Online Billing.
Monthly statements of George School charges are available online at GS Accounts Online. Payments can also be made online or mailed to George School Business Office, PMB 4482, 1690 Newtown Langhorne Road, Newtown PA 18940-2414.

Birthday Cakes for Boarders. Order a birthday cake for your child. Forms are online

Bus Transportation Schedule. If your school district provides bus transportation to George School, you need to confirm that they are in service during our opening days and on holidays when we hold classes. Visit our website for contact information.

The SOURCE Institute for Human Performance at George School has a host of professional services being offered, including individual training sessions, small group training and team training. If you plan on exercising, the SOURCE Institute at George School is the place to do it. Please call 215.579.6698 or email info@sourcepa.com to schedule your first session.
