George Long has added the title of head coach for the varsity girls’ basketball team to his job description this term. George previously coached the boys’ basketball team for the last six years, and serves as the boys’ athletic director, the head football coach, and the co-head coach in baseball.

“This time of the season is good for more than just anticipating the upcoming winter holidays: namely, first-year head coaches earning their first victories with new squads,” reported Tom Pfaff, correspondent, Bucks County Courier Times.

“The Cougars matched their win total from last season by overcoming an eight-point deficit after one quarter in their tournament opener on December 2, 2016 to earn a 29-23 comeback victory over the Academy of the New Church during the opening round of the Cougar Classic,” said Tom. The Cougars held the ANC Lions to six points in the last three quarters of the game.

“Co-captain and forward Shannon Cunningham ’17 added eleven points and nine rebounds for George School and guard Val LaVar ’17 added eight points. Co-captain and point guard Alexandra Long ’20 (and the coach’s daughter) played her first varsity game with the Cougars.”
