The varsity boys’ soccer team defeated Abington Friends School 2-0 on Thursday, September 28, 2017 for their third Friends Schools League win this season.

The first half of the game was scoreless. “Both teams squandered clear scoring chances in the first half,” said Head Coach Paul Machemer ’65. “The Kangaroos had headers slip by the post, a ball carom off the cross bar, and a point-blank shot bruise the chest of GS goalie junior Connor Stoklosa. For their part, the Cougars had three shots from about the six blocked by desperate defenders and the brave AFS goalie, one shot hit a post, and two shots rolled inches wide.”

The George School defenders Connor Stoklosa ’19 and Max Malavsky ’18 blocked six shots during the game. The Abington Friends goalie saved nine shots.

“Phil Cavallo ’18 had one goal and one assist, and George School scored twice in the second half to defeat Abington Friends 2-0 in Friends School League boys soccer,” reported The Intelligencer. “Niccolo Alighieri ’18 scored first in the 47th minute off an assist from Phil, and then Eric Yu ’19 assisted Phil in the 73rd minute for George School.”

The Cougars are now 3-0 in the Friends Schools League and are primed for their game against the 2016 runners-up from ANC on Friday, September 29, 2017.
