On January 16, George School students and their advisors will participate in a day of service to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Several volunteer projects are planned throughout Philadelphia including painting and cleaning at Piney Grove Baptist Church, serving food at Parkway Northwest High School, and sorting food at SHARE Food Distribution Center.
Students completed surveys within their collection groups in December to select the projects in which they are most interested. Selections ranged from arts and crafts at a local nursing home to preparing meals for the homeless.
Service Learning Coordinator, Steven Fletcher, says that this year twelfth graders will volunteer as a whole. “The senior class will volunteer at the Philadelphia Recovery Community Center, where they will clean-up the neighborhood that surrounds the center. The entire class, at one site, go Class of 2017!” wrote Steven in a communication to the George School community.
The day will conclude with a special all school Meeting for Worship in the George School Meetinghouse.
