Danielle Picard-Sheehan

Arts DepartmentDirector of Visual Arts and Design
Photographer Danielle inspires her students by challenging them to see their skills through different lenses.

Is there a moment in a class that stands out?

I had a student in her freshman year tell me that she was going to drop my class because she felt intimidated by the technical aspect. I promised her that I would help guide her and to stick with it. She graduated after taking four years of photography. As we said our goodbyes at the door of the photography lab, she thanked me for encouraging her not to drop the class, and then we laughed and cried.

Describe your teaching style.

My classes are challenging, because I treat my students as artists. I have very high expectations for my students in technical and conceptual ways. I do my best to help guide them to find their voice so that they may use photography to express what moves them in the world.

What would you tell prospective families about George School?

I taught at the college level and at several private schools in the area before I came to George School. I always tell prospective families that they will not find a more loving and inspiring academic community.
