Sam Houser Visits GS Families in Asia

Earlier this summer Head of School Sam Houser visited students, families, alumni, and friends in Asia. Sam, along with Special Assistant to the Head of School Jenna Davis ’78, visited Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Shanghai, Beijing, Seoul, and Taipei.

“Jenna and I were moved by the hospitality and closeness of the George School community in every city we visited,” said Sam. “We are fortunate that students from the many cultures of Asia join students from around the US and the world in honoring and enriching our community with their hearts and minds.”

During the trip, families arranged several special outings for Sam and Jenna including the Symphony of Lights in Hong Kong, a tea workshop in Shenzhen, dinner overlooking the Bund in Shanghai, the Silk Museum in Hangzhou, the Great Wall at Mutianya in Beijing, a traditional Korean meal at Dadam in Seoul, and a city tour in Taipei.

Both Jenna and Sam are impressed by the commitment George School families have to stay connected around the world. Jenna noted that families in South Korea meet together regularly and families in China use the social media platform, WeChat, to discuss various George School topics. Both Sam and Jenna are eager to visit Asia again in the future.
