George School varsity boys’ tennis defeated Moorestown Friends School 4-1 on Tuesday, May 2, 2017, extending their winning streak to five in a row in Friends Schools League (FSL) play. Co-captain Brayden Cohen ’17 won at first singles and Holdyn Barder ’17 and Grant Kind ’19 won at first doubles.

“The two flights that went the distance were first and second singles, both splitting sets with their opponents,” said Coach Pacho Gutierrez ’77. “At second singles Praveen Rodrigo ’20 finished in an impressive manner by winning the third set by a score of 6-2. Brayden fought tooth and nail to extend the third set into a tie-breaker, which he won by a score of 7-3.”

The second doubles team of Sartaj Gill ’18 and Paul Lutkus ’17 also won their match in straight sets.

“With this 4-1 win over Moorestown, George School is 5-1 in the FSL,” said Pacho. “Two outstanding flights have been Praveen at second singles and Holdyn and Grant at first doubles. They have yet to lose in the FSL.”

After six matches played, the George School Cougars have captured five consecutive wins and a share of first place along Germantown Friends and Westtown School. Next up for the Cougars is Westtown on Friday, May 5. If they win, the Cougars would finish in first place and secure home court advantage throughout the playoffs.
