The Walton Performing Arts Center Lobby is currently undergoing an expansion and renovation, with anticipated completion in May 2027.

Located in the heart of the academic quad, the lobby is envisioned as a shared community space and expanded art gallery. The project includes a 5,000 sq. ft. expansion of the lobby, expanded all-gender restrooms and the creation of an outdoor patio.

Scope of work:
  • Increased lobby capacity for use as a community and event gathering space

  • Outdoor patio/terrace/classroom area

  • Expanded art gallery

  • Expanded all-gender restrooms

  • Air-conditioned lobby area

  • Accessibility improvements and code compliance

  • Increased storage and natural lighting

George School is pleased to partner with GKO Architects on project design, Castle & Associates on project management and as owner’s representative, and Warfel Construction on the construction of the expanded and renovated lobby.

Logistics Plan for Campus

Building access will be limited during construction throughout the 2026–2027 school year and until the project is completed in May 2027.

Construction fencing will remain in place through the duration of the project and will be removed following the grand opening dedication during Alumni Weekend in May 2027. All community members are encouraged to review this information carefully, as pedestrian routes and parking access will be affected during this time

Here's what you need to know:
  • The center of the academic quad is closed to foot traffic.
  • Access to Walton is limited.
  • The parking lot between Walton and the Meeting House is currently inaccessible.
  • Temporary restroom facilities will be placed directly across from the side entrance of Walton in the grass area along Academic Walk mid-August 2026 and remain through construction for use by the community.
  • Following the completion of the project, a new access road from Farm Drive will provide entry to the parking lot between Walton and the Meeting House. Vehicular traffic from Farm Drive onto Meeting House Lane toward the Academic Walk will be discontinued, improving pedestrian safety for those traveling between the south end of campus and the academic quad.

Below is a logistics plan indicating where construction fencing is installed. Renderings are also placed along the fencing from Red Square down Academic Walk.
