At George School, we’re brighter together.

Our community strives to recognize and honor the Light within, and our faculty and staff commit to the continuous work of building a school where everyone feels safe, empowered and loved.

The George School Academic Program re-imagines the school day. It empowers faculty to be bold, creative and collaborative. It empowers students to choose their own challenges: the IB diploma, IB courses, APs, adventurous opportunities for global study, artistic expression, service learning and more. The result? An education that gives students the freedom and the support to become their most authentic selves.

About GS

George School was built on beliefs that we continue to hold dear: recognizing the Light within each individual, our core values of simplicity, peace, integrity, community, equality and sustainability (SPICES), a commitment to social justice and the power of education. Since its founding, these beliefs have given the school focus and direction, encouraging growth and change.

Today the diversity in our all-gender student body includes students from different races, ethnic groups, sexual orientations, economic backgrounds, religions and abilities. Geographically, our students come from 6 continents, 50 countries and 21 states. Our alumni can be found all over the world and we offer service learning and academic trips to countries on four continents. Members of our community hold multiple identities, and we believe that if we engage in thoughtful learning and discourse, practice deep listening, understand the power of consensus and strive to Mind the Light in ourselves and one another, we will continue the work of becoming the community we want to be.

Our Commitment

Rooted in the belief that all have a divine spark, the George School Experience aims to inspire a dynamic relationship between self-awareness and social cohesion. Alongside encouraging each “to let their lives speak,” George School endeavors to equip those gathered here to be deep listeners — to others and to themselves.

George School is committed to inclusiveness and equal opportunity and does not discriminate in its admission, educational or employment opportunities or practices on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, genetic information, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status or any other characteristic protected by law.

We actively encourage candidates of color, LGBTQ+ candidates and candidates from communities that are historically marginalized and underrepresented in independent schools. We seek candidates who can show a commitment to the traditions and philosophy of a Quaker educational community, a working style consistent with Quaker values and a demonstrated commitment to working towards belonging, inclusion and cultural competency.

Our goal is to be a community where people with vastly different backgrounds, identities and perspectives thrive, are treated equitably and are united in their mutual respect and the pursuit of a common good. This belief is reflected in the school’s motto, “Mind the Light.”

George School is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and the Pennsylvania Association of Independent Schools.

Justin Brandon, Head of School

“I was drawn to George School in part because of its long-standing commitment to building an intentionally diverse, global community of citizen-scholars. I appreciate how our faculty and staff challenge students to learn about who they are as individuals, but also to think about who they are in the context of the world.”

Meet Chéri & Edna

“I’ve been fortunate enough to spend most of my life engaged in this Friends community. Here you will find many hands to hold and many ears to listen as you and your family become part of this larger family. This is a community where growth is more important than achievements, where service and outreach are inherent in our mindset. There is indeed a Light within every community member.”
– Chéri Mellor, Language Faculty

“The safety of living on the GS campus gave our kids so much. They had moments to play Four Square and engage with the older students, and explore campus in an independent and joyful way. All of our children have grown into caring and confident people, determined to make a positive impact on the world.”
– Edna Valdepeñas, English Faculty
