Sam Tchoumandrine’s soccer journey at George School began in the fall of 2021 as a late-season call-up from the JV team. Despite being a freshman, Sam had been making his mark on the JV level, scoring regularly and catching the attention of the varsity coaches. His breakout moment came when he netted a crucial goal against long-time rival Westtown School. That goal set the stage for what would become an extraordinary GS career.
Fast forward three years, and Sam ’25 has cemented his place in George School soccer history. With 36 goals to his name, he is the second-highest scorer in the 113-year history of the program. In league play, he has been just as dominant, racking up 24 goals in the Friends Schools League (FSL), tying him for first among George School players since the league began in the early 1980s. His speed, dazzling dribbling and pinpoint shooting made him a constant target for opposing defenses, often drawing double and triple teams. Yet he remained unstoppable, earning All-FSL honors three times.
“Sam’s contributions went beyond the stat sheet,” said Head Coach Glenn Curry. “With his words, actions, and play, Sam provided great leadership for this year’s team; he recognized the importance of stepping up, not just by scoring goals, but by guiding his teammates.” Sam organized summer practices, motivated the team with positive messages, and offered timely words of encouragement during games. His leadership was as impactful as his performances on the field.
“I started playing soccer in September 2009, when I was three years old,” remembered Sam. “My parents have always been by my side, especially when I started playing in more competitive leagues.” His father’s dedication, often driving him to away games or ID clinics, gave Sam the support and inspiration he needed to push himself to the next level. “Their commitment has been my motivation to become the best version of myself.”
And his journey is just beginning. With interest from several colleges, including Division I programs like Bucknell University and Lafayette College, Sam is beginning to envision his next chapter.
“With his skill set and determination, I believe he can play at any level of college soccer,” said Glenn.
“George School has been nothing but uplifting, positive, and fun, while still being athletically challenging,” Sam said. “It’s helped me grow and develop into the best version of myself, and I look forward to what’s ahead.”
