Rock Climbing at George School
George School’s Climbing Program, founded in early 2024 by Karlee Goldberg and Walter Stephenson, is quickly becoming one of the school’s most exciting athletic offerings.
The team trains both on campus at our indoor climbing wall and competes at area climbing centers against other private schools in a growing league.

ACCOLADES
- The 2025 season marked the exciting debut of the George School Climbing Team. Training on campus and at local rock gyms, the team capped off its inaugural season with a top-rope competition at Rockville. G Warmouth ’27 delivered a standout performance, finishing 5th overall in a field of more than 40 climbers. It was a season of firsts, growth, and momentum, laying a strong foundation for the future of climbing at George School.
Meet the Coaches

Head Coach Walter Stephenson '08
Walter Stephenson discovered climbing 15 years ago at a small gym at the University of Delaware, and it quickly became a lifelong passion. Since then, he’s climbed in breathtaking locations around the world, constantly pushing his limits and deepening his love for the sport. Now, he brings that same energy and experience to George School’s Climbing Program, where he’s excited to help students build confidence, skill and a lasting connection to the climbing community.

Assistant Coach Karlee Goldberg
Karlee Goldberg is one of the founding coaches of George School’s Climbing Program and brings over eight years of climbing experience to the team. Her passion for the sport and commitment to building a supportive, skill-focused environment have helped shape the program from the ground up. Karlee is dedicated to helping student-athletes grow in confidence, technique and love for climbing.
