Rowing at George School

Founded in 2023, the George School Rowing has quickly grown from a handful of athletes to more than 60 team members.

The program trains out of a newly constructed boatyard at Core Creek Park, developed in partnership with two area independent schools.

With a culture built on hard work and collaboration, the self-proclaimed “Crew-gars” have made an impressive impact on the rowing scene. Their rapid growth and competitive spirit continue to fuel momentum for even greater success.

Meet the Coaches

Head Coach

Patrick O'Dunne cofounded the George School Rowing program in 2023 alongside former Assistant Coach Shari Rossman. Over the past four years, Patrick has guided the program through a period of remarkable growth, coaching the team to escalating success at both the regional and national levels.

Before stepping into his coaching role, Patrick competed at the highest level of the sport as a member of the U.S. National Team. He represented the United States at two World Rowing Championships—racing in the Men's Pair in 2005 and contributing to a fourth-place finish in the Men's Eight in 2007. That same year, he captured a gold medal in the Men's Eight and a silver medal in the Men's Pair at the Pan-American Games, adding to a list of medals from prestigious domestic and international regattas.

His own rowing journey began at Penn State University, where he transitioned from the participating in marching band to becoming a member of the Club rowing team. After four years of collegiate racing, his newfound passion led him to Boat House Row, where he continued his elite training with Penn Athletic Club.

Assistant Coach

Haley Uliasz began coaching at George School as an assistant in the summer of 2024. Since her arrival, she has been instrumental in developing the program's Junior Varsity athletes—successfully preparing them for the transition to Varsity competition.

She recently capped off a standout five-year Division I rowing career at Syracuse University, where she helped lead the Orange to the 2024 ACC Championship title and competed in four NCAA Championships. She made history as a member of the first-ever Syracuse Women's Eight to race at the prestigious Henley Royal Regatta. A versatile athlete, Haley also competed for Syracuse's Division I ice hockey team for one season, earning Atlantic Hockey America Student-Athlete of the Year honors.

Her rowing career began at The Kent School, where she was the rowing team's captain and earned multiple NEIRA medals. Today, Haley continues to train and compete with a high-performance rowing team in Philadelphia.

Assistant Coach

Avery Riekert joined the George School rowing program in the fall of 2024 as the Lead Novice Coach. A cornerstone of the coaching staff, she is dedicated to building a strong foundation for the program's newest rowers by developing their technical skills, fostering self-confidence, and instilling a deep sense of teamwork.

Avery began her rowing career at the Great Miami Rowing Center. When health challenges paused her time on the water, she channeled her love for the sport into coaching and coxing—discovering a lifelong passion for mentorship. Prior to joining George School, she served as a student coach and coxswain for Miami University’s Rowing Club, where she honed her ability to guide and inspire emerging athletes.
